Licensed Tutor FAQs

We're here to help

We train Licensed Tutors and Licensed Mentors who are keen to be part of a UK-wide network supported by I CAN to disseminate evidenced-based training and intervention programmes to practitioners in early years settings, primary and secondary schools. Please click here to find out more about our training programmes and interventions.

To become a Licensee you must be a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), a qualified Teacher or an Educational Psychologist. If you meet this criteria and would like to submit an application to become an I CAN Licensee please follow the steps below.

How to Apply:

To apply, please visit our Become a Tutor page

  • How much does it cost to become a Licensee?

To become a licensed tutor, you must first complete tutor training. Training usually takes place in London's central office and our courses vary in price due to the resources that are included. To find out course dates, costs and availability, please contact us on or 0207 843 2515.

As a Licensee, you will be required to pay an annual Licence Fee of £60 (incl VAT) for each year that you continue to deliver I CAN programmes and interventions.

  • I want to become a Licensee but I’m not based in the UK

We do have Licensees overseas and our international reach continues to grow. It's important to note that I CAN’s programmes and interventions are piloted in England and sometimes refer to the English curriculum and so the outcomes outlined in our evaluation reports may differ when delivered in other countries. If you live overseas and are considering applying, please contact or by tel: 020 7843 2515 so that we can discuss your requirement in more detail.

  • I am interested in receiving workplace training to become a Licensee/I have a group of staff who I would like to train in Talk Boost KS1, Early Talk etc.

If there is a group of you who are interested in being trained in one of our programmes and would rather not travel together to London for training, or cannot make one of our Central Office training dates, we are happy for one of our Speech & Language Advisers to run training in your workplace for the group of you.

Workplace training quotes are tailored depending on the group. Workplace training requests are assessed on a case by case basis, and while there is no official minimum number of attendees necessary to run workplace training, smaller groups a long way from our professional advisors may not be feasible. Email or give our Social Enterprise Team a call on 020 7843 2515 to discuss venues, dates and pricings for workplace training.

  • I’ve forgotten my password/username

Please call 020 7843 2515 or email where one of our team will be happy to help you locate your username, and reset your password if necessary.

  • I am having difficulty booking onto a course

In order to book a space on a course online, you must have been vetted and approved to attend that course.

If you are having trouble booking on a course, please contact the licensing team on 0207 843 2515 or email

  • How do I find setting/schools who want to be trained once I am a Licensee?

A great first port of call is to get in touch with the licensing team so that we can have a chat about potential options. We can also add you on to our licensee spreadsheet that settings can search to find tutors in their area. Local practitioners requiring training will then be able to see that you are near to them and contact you directly.
