I CAN, the children’s communication charity has worked in association with PDS (Print Data Solutions) numerous times over the past 10 years to fundraise for children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). May 2018, marks the 10th year of the charity and the Wellingborough based company working in partnership and also coincides with PDS’s 20th anniversary. To mark both milestones, the print management company have pulled together 20 enthusiastic runners, who will pound the pavements in London for the Vitality 10k on May 28 2018.
Clare Geldard, Director of Business Development at I CAN, shared her thoughts on the event. “Every year we want to use sponsored runs to highlight the work of I CAN to a wider group of people. What makes this years’ Vitality 10K so special is that we can celebrate the work we do with children and young people with communication difficulties alongside our friends at PDS. They have been an amazing partner over the past decade and have supported numerous projects that have a direct impact on children and young people with SLCN all over the country and around the world.”
Long term speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), are a major issue for around 10% of children in England. Recent studies have shown that around half of primary school aged children in some areas of deprivation have delayed language. I CAN produces resources, with the support of PDS, that help teaching staff, speech and language therapists and parents, intervene and support children’s speech and language development.
Scott Rendall, Commercial Director at PDS says, “PDS (Print Data Solutions) have worked with I CAN for 10 years now and we have seen first-hand the difference they are making to children in the UK, with the continued improvements in programmes and early learning schemes. We are proud to have supported them on so many projects that make a difference to those children who may struggle at home or in the classroom, ensuring that every child has the chance to develop their speech, language and communication skills. We recognise the importance this has in enabling them to catch up via a fun and engaging way of learning. We love creating “Team PDS” every year for the London Vitality 10K and raising money for this fantastic charity. Plus we have the added challenge of bringing together 20 runners this year, our biggest group to date!”
