Welcome to Let’s Get Knowsley Talking (LGKT), a joint initiative by the Knowsley Early Years Service and I CAN to deliver Early Years training to settings across the Knowsley area. This page will provide you with all the information that you need to make the most of this opportunity.
What is Let's Get Knowsley Talking?
LGKT is a project to train Knowsley settings in I CAN's highly successful training and accreditation programme - Early Talk. Early Talk is aimed at the early years workforce to support the communication needs of children from birth to age 5. The Early Talk 0-5 training programme has been independently evaluated as enhancing the learning environment for all children, with a long-term positive impact on staff and practice.
What is involved?
In addition to training, each setting will get a comprehensive Early Talk Toolkit to support communication as well as undergoing our Early Years accreditation process. Once accredited you will be able to show that your school meets the standards set for good practice in supporting all children’s speech, language and communication development. For nurseries that are attached to a school, they will also be trained in I CAN's Early Talk Boost Intervention.
As part of the project there is a dedicated speech and language therapist, based locally to support you (details below).
What do I need to do?
Your next step is to book any training for you or your setting using the links at the bottom of the page. More information about the various aspects of the project can be found in the tabs below.
Your school will receive training in I CAN's highly successful training and accreditation programme Early Talk. Early Talk is aimed at the early years workforce in partnership with parents to support the communication needs of children from birth to age 5. The Early Talk 0-5 training programme has been independently evaluated as enhancing the learning environment for all children, with a long-term positive impact on staff and practice. Each setting will also take home a comprehensive Early Talk Toolkit to support communication best practice moving forward.
Early Talk training in the module Supporting Communication and Language will be delivered online and will take 4 hours to complete.
To book onto this training at a date and time that suits you, click the links at the bottom of the page.
All settings in Knowsley will have the opportunity to work with an I CAN mentor to help them gain our Supportive level of Early Talk accreditation. Our Accreditation recognises good practice in evidencing speech, language and communication development in children who are developing skills in line with expectations for their age.
We will be available to support settings with questions about the standards and throughout the process.
Click here to learn more about I CAN Accreditation.
Any nurseries attached to a Primary School will be eligible for a fully funded training session on our Early Talk Boost intervention, aimed at children 3-4 with delayed language. Early Talk Boost narrows the gap between them and their peers, and helps to prepare children well for reception.
After participating in the Early Talk Boost intervention 72% of children reached expected levels in understanding words and sentences (compared to 27% before), as measured by the I CAN tracker.
Please click the below link to book yourself or your setting on to an online webinar with our SLT Jess Page. You are able to sign up as an individual, or you can sign up your whole setting at a time. Training sessions are limited to 20 places per session, but this can be flexible if needed. Below you will find a range of dates available. We have tried to offer flexible sessions that work best for staff to attend, half days, whole days, and twilight sessions.
You only need to access one of these training sessions linked below to complete your training.

Introducing your I CAN Advisor
Jess Page is the I CAN Speech and Language Advisor who will deliver the training for the Let’s Get Knowsley Talking project. Jess has been working as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS for nearly 10 years; 3 of these have been spent in Knowsley covering Halewood and Kirkby. Jess’ work in Knowsley will involve delivering training in Early Talk to settings and supporting settings to achieve Early Talk Accreditation through a mentoring process.
Jess is available for a general chat or to answer your questions before training begins. If you want to get in touch, Jess can be reached on firstname.lastname@example.org or 020 7239 0002. We have planned in Office Hours with Jess, where you can link in to a Zoom session to ask her a question or share knowledge with other settings in the Knowsley area.
The first Tuesday of every month, 3pm - 5pm
