Activities to develop speaking and listening skills

I CAN’s speech and language advisors have suggested some activities below that you can try at home to support your child’s speech, language and communication development.

If you would like to find out more about how speech, language and communication skills develop in children, please visit I CAN’s Talking Point website. You’ll find a number of tips for supporting your child’s speech and language development, and you can even use our Progress Checker to check your child’s progress against what is expected for their age.

If you have concerns about your child’s speech and language development, contact I CAN’s Enquiry Service on 020 843 2544 or email enquiries@ican.org.uk. The Enquiry Service is open from 9:30am – 12:30pm, and 1:30pm – 4:30pm, Monday to Wednesday every week. A qualified speech and language therapist is available to answer your questions and give general advice.
