Ofsted Early Years Annual Report 2015

September 2015

This year’s Ofsted Early Years annual report has been published. It has three main themes:

  • Is early education getting better across England?
The report tells us that over 80% of all early years provision is good or outstanding, a higher percentage than last year. So, overall the quality is improving
  • Is early education providing the quality that parents want?
The report also tells us that professionals understand that teaching is their responsibility and that this should provide confidence to parents on the quality of the childcare.
  • Is early education preparing children well for the next phase of their education?
Ofsted feel that schools need to do more to work closely with early years providers to make sure children are well prepared to start formal schooling.

In the report Ofsted support the need for high quality provision. They say:

“Early education can make a fundamental difference to life chances, but only if the child receives high quality early education at a young enough age.”
